ESC OPPORTUNITY: Leisure, Sports and Enhancing the autonomy of people with mental disability in LaFACT FUPAR

Place: Terrassa, Catalonia

Dates: From 09th September 2025 to 09th August 2026 (11 months)

WHO WE ARE

The Amat Roumens Foundation, LaFACT is a private, non-profit social organization created in 1971 and constituted as a Foundation in 1985. It responds to the proposal of a group of parents who sought to give continuity to the process of training and social inclusion of their children with disabilities, once the special education stage was completed.

The project was based on a novel approach in our country, based on occupational employment as a means of inclusion, and at the time it was an innovative experience in Spain. LaFACT provides care for more than 500 people with disabilities. Each of the people served, according to their abilities and autonomy, receives the most appropriate support. The management and support staff is made up of more than 100 professionals and volunteers.

The Foundation’s Leisure Service organizes and promotes the participation of people with intellectual disabilities in socio-educational and sports activities, as a platform to improve personal autonomy and social inclusion. Although in the city of Terrassa there is a great offer (municipal and/or private) in the field of training, non-formal education and leisure, their participation is difficult. Either because of the idiosyncrasy of the person or because only rarely the activities are within reach of their interests and abilities, especially in the case of adults with intellectual disabilities.
