Intercanvi juvenil: Let’s play in nature

From the organization of La Víbria, (international mobility for young people) a team formed by 4 young people and 1 youth leader participated to the youth exchange “Let’s Play in Nature!” carried out in Valsinni, Italy. It consisted of 11 days of exchange as part of a large group with several countries; Turkey, Poland, Lithuania, Italy and Spain, with whom we were able to share various experiences all together within the Parco dei Criusciuni.

I would define this one as an unforgettable experience, in which I took with me very nice friendships and a personal growth achieved by having known about other cultures, and having been living together for so many days all together.

Personally I can say that it has been a very recommendable experience for those young people who want to get out of their comfort zone, since there is a very good support from the organisers both from your country and from the country where you are going to do Erasmus, and once you start you always want to repeat. I have achieved new learning and personal challenges, and I have left with a much wider social circle full of new lasting and beautiful friendships.

This has been my first Erasmus experience with La Víbria, and I can assure you that it has been really wonderful. My main motivation was to get to know people from other cultures and to practice my English, and I have been able to do so with great success. I have really enjoyed the time we have spent connecting with nature and learning about it and I have had a lot of good times together with all the other students.

For me, this exchange has been to find the exact definition of growth. In all areas, both personally and academically and in terms of languages. The special environment in a spectacular area of the country and the companions who have taught me different ways of being and that living with different people is a great gift for your personal growth. It is a new way of discovering yourself again and feeling free. It may seem that the language can play a trick on you, but you have to take advantage of it and face it as a challenge of self-improvement. The important thing is to learn what people teach you, opening your perspective on the world without prejudices and stereotypes.

You come back feeling bigger as a person, and sometimes you can learn more in a week than in a course. I would come back again. As I mentioned before, our theme was nature; we have been doing outdoor activities, we did meditation and mindfulness connecting with nature, among others. We have also visited other towns and villages in the surroundings, for example; Matera, Valsinni (village), Taranto, Policoro, where we spent the day at the beach dynamising various activities, and Castelsaraceno, where we participated in the activity of a hanging bridge. All the activities have been done by all the countries together, which has created cooperation, needed communication, companionship… all this has meant that we have ended up understanding and learning with and from the other countries and cultures.

We were living in the Parco Dei Crisciuni, which consisted of a large area full of nature. We stayed in bungalows shared with other countries. We also had a few tents and we were burping, those who were installed in tents, had access to outdoor toilets and showers.

The part of rooms was above all, down a stone ramp to the bottom you could reach the dining area, living area, lounge, dining room, kitchen, bathroom and toilet. We felt very comfortable and very well received by the Italian team, we wanted to grate above all the work of Francesca, director and manager of the place, Antonio our chef and director, Francesca’s partner, the Marilina, volunteer team worker, Angela, who took care of cleaning and sanitization of the structure and Leo and Helena, the animators of the musical evenings.
