Els meus inicis a Catalunya

Hola a tots, em dic Elvire, tinc 20 anys, sóc francesa, he estat involucrada amb el voluntariat des de fa 10 anys. M’encanta l’aventura i volia viure’n una a l’estranger per primera vegada. Així que aquí estic, vivint a Terrassa prop de Barcelona des de fa 1 mes i mig. Una experiència tan diferent de tot el que he viscut fins ara. Sempre he viscut envoltada dels meus pares i de les meves germanes i ara aquí estic compartint pis amb 5 persones aparentment fantàstiques (mentre escric això, el Guilherme canta totes les seves forces a la cuina)!  La cosa increïble d’anar a un projecte de voluntariat és que et trobes amb joves que aspiren a les mateixes coses que tú. Tothom al meu voltant a França va quedar impressionat per aquesta decisió d’anar sola durant tant de temps. Em veien com a algú especial. I així és com totes aquestes persones valentes i especials es troben al mateix lloc. És divertit, perquè tota la vida he sigut molt propera a una persona més aviat introvertida, tímida, que segurament no hauria fet el que faig jo avui. Aquesta és la primera vegada que conec tanta gent que s’assembla a mi. I això em fa sentir genial.

Contràriament al que es podria pensar, he millorat sobretot el meu nivell d’anglès des que vaig arribar. No és una cosa dolenta, perquè com a francesa, el meu anglès estava lluny de ser perfecte. Pel que fa al meu nivell d’espanyol, (in)necessari especificar que vaig estudiar aquesta llengua durant 7 anys i que tinc el mateix nivell que un alemany que el va estudiar durant 3 anys (Anton)… Ja vindrà! 

Treballo a Prodis, una associació, o fins i tot una comunitat, que acull gent amb discapacitats psíquiques tots els dies de la setmana excepte els caps de setmana per oferir-los activitats manuals, físiques, esportives… Prodis compta amb diversos centres a Terrassa i en concret bars i restaurants en els quals contracten persones amb discapacitat. La meva missió consisteix en donar-los suport en les seves activitats i de vegades posar-los en marxa. Més concretament, la major part de la meva feina consisteix a jugar a bàsquet i futbol, ​​ballar zumba i… ensenyar francès! Tothom és adorable i si hi ha una paraula no oblidaré és “Guapa! “. Estic contenta d’anar a treballar, de trobar-me amb les companyes i amb els usuaris i usuàries de Prodis. 

Viure a Terrassa és una alegria per a mi. La meva ciutat a França té aproximadament la mateixa mida. Hi ha prou coses per fer per no avorrir-se i sobretot molts festivals. Per completar la meva agenda bastant pausada, em vaig inscriure a a classe d’art on estic envoltada de mares de la ciutat que xerren Espanyol durant 2 hores. Fa un bon bany de llengua. Òbviament, el millor d’aquesta cuitat és que està a prop de la muntanya, el mar i Barcelona. I això no té preu. I cirera al pastís: es pot viatjar amb tren a gairebé qualsevol punt de la regió durant 3 mesos per 10 euros! Gràcies al transport públic, vaig poder visitar Sitges, un petit poble meravellós al mar al sud de Barcelona, ​​on se sent com a “King’s Landing” (només els millors entendreu la referència). Vam pujar La Mola fins al monestir que veig cada dia des del meu balcó. Òbviament he anat a Barcelona diverses vegades per aprofitar-ho museus, exposicions, bars, barris antics, scooter d’autoservei, festes majors i platja.

Acabo de tornar d’una setmana d’entrenament a Coma-ruga. Una setmana organitzada per la Programa ESC que reuneix 25 voluntaris de Catalunya per compartir, aprendre, intercanviar, descobrir, divertir-se, menjar (!) i sobretot no dormir. Al principi, no entenia realment els objectius d’aquesta formació. Però és molt senzill. En primer lloc, entendre millor el programa ESC, la nostra missió, les nostres responsabilitats però sobretot trobada. Coneix altres voluntaris, conèixer antics voluntaris, conèixer gent que treballa per muntar aquest projecte, conèixer castellers i esdevenir casteller al seu torn. Totes aquestes reunions són claus per aprofitar al màxim aquesta experiència i fer-te adonar de la sort que tens de viure aquesta oportunitat. Sort de ser-hi, d’haver pogut aprofitar aquesta oportunitat i de formar part d’un projecte tan meravellós.

My beginnings in Catalonia

Hello everyone, my name is Elvire, 20 years old, French, leading through all kinds of volunteering since about 10 years. I love adventure and I wanted to experience one abroad for the first time. Me so here we are in Terrassa near Barcelona for 1 and a half months. Such a different experience of everything I have experienced so far. I have always lived surrounded by my parents and my sisters and now here I am sharing with 5 apparently great people (while I write Guilherme sings with all his guts in the kitchen)! Which is good when you go for a volunteering project is that you find yourself with young people who aspire to the same things as you. Everyone around me in France was impressed by this decision to go alone for so long a long time. I was seen as someone special. And so all these special people and courageous people find themselves in the same place. It’s funny, because all my life I’ve been very close to a rather introverted, shy person, who would surely not have done what I do today. This is the first time I’ve met so many people who look like me. And I feel good.

Contrary to what one might think, I have mainly improved my level of English since I arrived. It’s not any worse, because being French, he was far from impeccable. As for my level of Spanish, (un)necessary to specify that I studied this language for 7 years and that I have the same level as a German who studied it for 3 years (Anton)… It will come!

I work at Prodis, an association, or even a community, which welcomes people mentally handicapped every day of the week except weekends to offer them activities manual, physical, sports… Prodis has several centers in Terrassa and in particular bars and restaurants in which they hire people with disabilities. My mission consists therefore to support them in their activities and sometimes put them in place. More concretely, the Most of my job involves playing basketball and soccer, dancing zumba and… To teach French ! Everyone is adorable and if there’s one word I’m not ready to forget it’s “Guapa! “. I am happy to go to work, to meet colleagues and disabled.

Living in Terrassa is a joy for me. My town in France is roughly the same size so I’m not too rushed. There are enough things to do not to get bored and above all lots of festivals. To complete my fairly leisurely schedule, I signed up for aart class where I am surrounded by all the great moms in town who chat Spanish for 2 hours. It makes a good tongue bath. Obviously the best asset of this city is that it is close to the mountains, the sea and Barcelona. And that is priceless. There cherry on the cake: you can travel by train almost anywhere in the region for 3 months for 10 euros! Thanks to public transport, I was able to visit Sitges, a wonderful little town by the sea  south of Barcelona where it feels like King’s Landing for the best of you who will have the reference. I hiked on La Molla to the monastery that I see every day from my balcony. I obviously went to Barcelona several times to take advantage of the museums, exhibitions, bars, old neighborhoods, self-service scooter, Fiesta Mayor and beach (once not two).

I have just returned from a week of training in Coma-ruga. A week organized by the ESC program bringing together 25 volunteers from Catalonia to share, learn, exchange, discover, have fun, eat (!) and above all not sleep. At first, I didn’t really understand the objectives of this training. But it’s very simple. First, understand the program better ESC, our mission, our responsibilities but above all meeting. Meet other volunteers, meet former volunteers, meet people who work to set up this project, meeting castellers and becoming a casteller in turn. All these meetings are the keys to taking full advantage of this experience and making you realize how much talent you have chance. Lucky to be there, to have been able to seize this opportunity and to be part of such a beautiful project.
