Només queden tres setmanes del meu treball com a voluntari. És una bogeria veure com de ràpid pot passar el temps, encara que he entès des del principi que seria així.

La meva feina a Fupar s’ha convertit des de fa temps en rutina, una rutina que m’agrada. He pogut conèixer millor els participants i gaudir del temps amb ells. Ja per l’estiu les activitats esportives van acabar i vam tenir un nou horari per l’últim mes. Anem, per exemple, a la piscina del parc de la ciutat, i estic fent la meva pròpia activitat de percussió. És un projecte personal que vaig proposar fa molt de temps i que per fi estic fent realitat!

Quan vaig venir aquí tenia idees de coses que volia fer durant el meu període de voluntariat, com objectius a aconseguir. Per exemple, volia unir-me a una banda, mentre tocava la bateria, i utilitzar el temps per entrar més en el cinema, un interès que vaig tenir durant algun temps però que mai va arribar a ser realment. No obstant això, uns mesos després del voluntariat vaig deixar anar aquesta llista d’idees, i en comptes d’això vaig deixar que passessin coses en lloc d’obligar-me a sortir d’una llista. Un enfocament més relaxat de l’experiència, que sens dubte crec que és la millor manera; gaudir sense pressionar-se a fer coses que un “hauria de” fer perquè és el que un “vol”.

Ara que miro enrere aquests “objectius”, crec que els he complert d’una manera o una altra. Potser no m’hagués unit a una banda, sinó a un grup de batucada, on mai em veuria fa un any. La batucada ha estat una experiència súper divertida ara durant l’estiu ja que fem moltes actuacions diferents.

Un altre objectiu era conèixer la gent de la zona, cosa que he fet tant a través de la batucada com del col·lectiu casteller al qual m’he unit. També he actuat amb els castellers, quan el grup tenia la seva “diada”, que era molt fresca i, una vegada més, alguna cosa que mai no podia imaginar.

També volia veure més d’Espanya, i vaig fer un viatge esmentable. Vam anar a un poble proper a Màlaga per a un seminari amb voluntaris de tot el país, una setmana plena d’activitats. Al final de la setmana vaig aprofitar per estar al sud d’Espanya i em vaig quedar a Màlaga, amb alguns voluntaris d’altres projectes. El meu viatge va continuar sol a Sevilla i Madrid. Sevilla és realment tan bonica com tothom diu, la idíl·lica ciutat espanyola. Va ser la meva primera vegada en solitari viatjant, concretament un viatge més llarg de l’habitual, la qual cosa va ser una bona experiència.

Estic tan content de poder dur a terme aquesta experiència, i com una vegada vaig llegir al meu llibre espanyol, vull dir-li a algú això: “Si te interesa salir de [tu país] y trabajar como voluntario en el extranjero, ¡No vaciles! ¡Decídete y hazlo!”.

There are only three weeks left of my volunteer work. Crazy how fast time can pass by, though I understood from the beginning that it would be the case.

My work at Fupar has since long become routine, a routine that I like. I’ve gotten to know the participants better and enjoy the time with them. Now for summer the sports activities ended and we got a new schedule for the last month. We are e.g going to the pool in the park of the city, and I am doing my own percussion activity. It is a personal project that I proposed a long time ago and that I am finally making reality!

When I came here I had ideas of things that I wanted to do during my volunteer-period, like goals to accomplish. E.g I wanted to join a band, as I play the drum set, and use the time to get more into filmmaking, an interest that I had for some time but never got really into. However, a few months into the volunteer-work I let go of this list of ideas, and instead I just let stuff happen rather than forcing me to check off from a list. A more relaxed approach to the experience, which I definitely think is the better way; to purely enjoy without pressuring oneself to do things that one “should” do because it is what one “wants”.

Now that I look back on these “goals” though, I think that I have fulfilled them in one way or another. I might have not joined a band, but a batucada group, where I would never see myself one year ago. The batucada has been a super fun experience now during summer as we do many different performances.

Another aim was to get to know local people, which I’ve done through the batucada as well as the castellers-group that I joined. I have performed with the castellers as well, when the group had their “diada”, which was really cool and once again something I could never imagine.

I also wanted to see more of Spain, and did one mentionable trip. We went to a village close to Malaga for a seminar with volunteers from all over the country, a week full of activities. At the end of the week I took advantage of being in the south of Spain and stayed in Malaga, with some volunteers from other projects. My trip continued alone to Sevilla and Madrid. Sevilla is really that beautiful as everyone says, the idyllic Spanish town. It was my first time solo traveling a longer trip, which was a good experience.

I am so happy to been able to carry out this experience, and like I once read in my Spanish-book, I want to tell anyone this: “Si te interesa salir de [tu país] y trabajar como voluntario en el extranjero, ¡no vaciles! ¡Decídete y hazlo!”.
