Em dic Annelie, tinc 18 anys i sóc d’un poble de la mida de Terrassa al nord d’Alemany 🇩🇪, anomenat Kiel.

Hi everyone,

My name is Annelie, I’m 18 years old and from a Terrassa sized town in the north of Germany 🇩🇪, called Kiel.

Aquest estiu vaig acabar l’escola i estava completament convençuda que volia viure a l’estranger durant un temps més llarg i vaig començar a buscar oportunitats. No vaig tenir molta sort amb l’ESC, no vaig rebre moltes respostes o algunes organitzacions em van deixar penjada, així que gairebé vaig abandonar la idea de fer voluntariat en un nou país i escapar del fred d’Alemanya. Vaig sol·licitar un projecte organitzat per la Vibria i vaig fer una entrevista amb l’Ailen, però em van rebutjar. Tot i així, ella em va enviar la descripció del projecte a Jeroni i em va oferir aquell lloc. Al principi no estava segura perquè no em veia treballant amb persones amb discapacitat, però després vaig pensar que hauria de superar aquests dubtes i, un mes abans que comencés el projecte, finalment vaig aconseguir un lloc.

Fins ara no em penedeixo gens d’aquesta decisió. Tot i que el treball a Jeroni durant les primeres setmanes va ser molt aclaparador, ja que es comuniquen principalment en català i jo no sabia ni una paraula d’espanyol quan vaig arribar aquí. A més, crec que treballar amb persones discapacitades és molt especial i cal temps per entendre-ho i adaptar-s’hi.

Tot i això, ara em sento còmoda a la feina i el que més valoro és l’ambient, que és molt afectuós, de suport i sempre ple d’humor. (i, és clar, si puc passar una estona amb els meus companys preferits)

In summer I graduated school and I was absolutely convinced that I wanted to live abroad for a longer time and went to search for opportunities. I wasn’t so lucky with the ESC, I didn’t receive a lot of answers or organisations ghosted me, so I almost gave up the idea of volunteering in a new country and escaping the cold in Germany. I applied for a project hosted by la Vibria and had an interview with Ailen and got rejected but she sent me the description of the project in Jeroni and offered me that place. At first I wasn’t sure because I didn’t see myself working with people with disabilities but then I thought to myself that I should overcome those doubts and one month before the project started I finally had a place.

So far I don’t regret this decision at all. Even Though the work in Jeroni the first weeks was very overwhelming since they mainly communicate in Catalan and I didn’t even know any Spanish before I came here. In addition I believe that work with disabled people is very special and you need some time to understand and adapt to it.

However now I feel comfortable at work and what I appreciate the most is the atmosphere which is very loving, supportive and always with a lot of humor. (and of course if I get to hang out with the my favourite college)

Pel que fa a la meva vida fora de la feina, hi ha moltes coses que m’agraden de la vida com a voluntària a Terrassa. En primer lloc, gaudeixo força de ser part d’un grup gran de voluntaris, ja que això facilita molt socialitzar i també estàs entre persones amb qui pots compartir experiències.

A més, Vibria ofereix moltes oportunitats per conèixer gent nova i ens anima a conèixer la cultura local. Durant els últims mesos hem fet algunes excursions i estic emocionada per explorar més la natura de Catalunya. De fet, m’encantaria anar als Pirineus almenys una vegada.

En general, hi ha moltes coses que tinc al cap que m’agradaria fer aquí, però el que he estat descobrint últimament és que potser no tindré el temps ni els diners per fer realitat totes aquestes idees. Tot i això, segueixo curiosa per saber què passarà en els pròxims mesos i com em desenvoluparé, perquè en algun moment d’aquest any hauré de decidir què vull fer després d’això i on, ja que fins ara no tinc LA idea ni el pla definitiu. Així que ja veurem…

Considering my life beside work there are a lot of things I really like about life as a volunteer in Terrassa. First of all I quite enjoy being a part of a big group of volunteers, this makes it a lot easier to socialise and you are also among people that can relate to you.

Furthermore, Vibria offers a lot of opportunities to meet new people and encourages us to experience the culture here. In the last months we did a few hikes and I am excited about exploring catalunya’s nature more, I actually would love to go to the pyrenees at least once.

In general there are a lot of things I have in mind that I would love to do here but what I’ve been figuring out lately is that I may not have the time and money to fulfil all these ideas. However I am still curious about what’s gonna come within the next months and how I am developing, because at some point this year I need to decide what and I want to do after this and where, since so far I don’t have THE idea or plan. So let’s see…
