Holaaaa

I am Elena, 19 years old and I come from a small town near Frankfurt in Germany 🇩🇪.

Vaig acabar l’escola l’estiu passat i sabia que no volia anar directament a la universitat (també perquè volia descobrir QUÈ exactament volia estudiar primer…). Per això vaig sol·licitar diversos projectes ESC en diferents països i vaig enviar uns 100 currículums, i després, per sort, vaig ser acceptada per La Vibria aquí a Terrassa.

Ja fa més de tres mesos que visc aquí a Terrassa i estic més que contenta!! Tot i que abans de marxar tenia dubtes sobre fer aquest pas, ara puc dir que va ser la millor decisió per a mi participar en aquest projecte.

I graduated last summer and I knew that I didn’t want to go straight to university (also because I wanted to find out WHAT exactly I wanted to study first…). That’s why I applied for various ESC projects in different countries and sent out like 100 applications and then I was luckily accepted by La Vibria here in Terrassa.

I’ve now been living here in Terrassa for over three months and I’m more than happy!! Even though I had doubts about taking this step before I left, I can now say that it was the best decision for me to take part in this project.

Treballo amb la Paula, l’Inês i el Malik a LaFACT Fupar, on donem suport i acompanyem persones amb discapacitat en les seves activitats diàries. Les meves tasques inclouen esports com hockey, natació i bàsquet, però també dansa, ping pong, informàtica i artesania. També m’he convertit en una gran fan de la petanca (tot i que l’equip de Fupar no guanya gaire sovint). M’agrada molt la feina i m’agrada que estiguem molt actius i que cada dia sigui diferent de l’anterior. A Fupar, la gent té una gran varietat d’activitats per triar i també hem anat d’excursió, l’última a un Saló del Manga.

Com la majoria de nosaltres, no tenia cap experiència prèvia treballant amb persones amb discapacitat i moltes coses eren noves per a mi al principi. Aprenc molt dels altres monitors, que tots van fer una feina impressionant i van ser molt acollidors!! I tot i que a vegades hi ha situacions difícils, és molt bonic passar temps amb les persones i divertir-se junts. He estat a casa dues setmanes per Nadal i m’he adonat que ja en echo molt de menys a la gent!!!

I work together with Paula, Inês and Malik at LaFACT Fupar, where we support and accompany disabled people in their daily activities. My tasks include sports such as hockey, swimming and basketball, but also dancing, ping pong, Informatica and Artesania. I have also become a big fan of Petanca (although the Fupar Team doesn’t win too often). I really enjoy the work and I like the fact that we are very active and every day is different from the next. In Fupar, people have a huge range of activities to choose from and we’ve also gone on excursions, most recently to a Salon de Manga.

Like most of us, I had no previous experience of working with people with disabilities and a lot of things were new to me at the beginning. I learn a lot from the other monitors, who all did an amazing job and were so welcoming!! And although there are sometimes difficult situations, it’s really nice to spend time with the people and have fun together. I’ve just been home for two weeks over Christmas and realized that I already miss the people so much!!!

A més, el meu espanyol està (lentament) millorant i ajuda que el nostre cap només parli en espanyol. El millor d’aquest treball és que et pots entendre i divertir sense necessitat de parlar massa. Per descomptat, el meu objectiu és parlar espanyol amb fluïdesa al final del voluntariat 😎 i també treballaré en les meves habilitats en català.

Also my Spanish is (slowly) improving and it helps that our boss only speaks Spanish anyway. The great thing about this job is that you can understand each other and have fun without speaking too many words. Of course my goal is to be fluent in Spanish by the end of the volunteering😎 aaaand I will work on my catalan skills too.

Vivir en un pis compartit és divertit i ja hem tingut l’oportunitat d’explorar Terrassa i Barcelona tant de dia com de nit. Catalunya ja té un lloc especial al meu cor i immediatament recomanaria a tothom que participés en un projecte així! De moment, estic emocionada per saber què em portaran els propers set mesos.

Living in a shared flat is fun and we’ve already had the opportunity to explore Terrassa and Barcelona at day and at night. Cataluña already has a special place in my heart and I would immediately recommend anyone to take part in such a project! For now I’m excited for what the next seven months will bring.
