Estimadíssim diari,

Han passat vuit mesos de projecte, ara som al maig i, en el meu cas, durarà una mica més: he decidit quedar-me. No vull tornar a casa i, com que m’agrada la vida aquí i ja conec algunes persones, Terrassa s’ha convertit en la meva elecció per als pròxims anys.

Estudiaré a Barcelona, llengües i literatura moderna: és un grau de quatre anys que em requerirà anar sovint a la ciutat.
Per això també estic buscant un pis a prop d’una estació de tren. No és gaire difícil, de fet, ja que la majoria de pisos compartits són a la zona universitària de Terrassa i el tren hi para. Aquesta nit en vaig a veure un altre i estic esperant resposta d’una dotzena de persones :).

Tinc massa coses al cap… He de fer la preinscripció a la universitat, he de trobar un lloc on viure, he de demanar la beca general que podria cobrir parcialment els estudis i, a més, he d’organitzar les vacances! Saps, aquí a Catalunya, a part d’alguns dies de pluja molt benvinguts, fa bastanta calor i ja hem entrat en el mode estiu. Les platges són plenes, els boscos ben verds i tot està florit.

Sobretot en aquesta època de l’any, la vida pot ser bastant caòtica i sense pauses. Hi ha un munt d’associacions que fan trobades, tallers, activitats esportives a la natura i molt més. Apuntar-s’hi és una bona manera de conèixer gent, descobrir el territori, aprendre habilitats noves i practicar català (també vaig provar els castellers un parell de setmanes però és suuuper avorrit, no recomanable).

Última novetat: d’aquí a una setmana me’n vaig un parell de setmanes per fer els últims 350 km del camí de Santiago amb un parell d’amics. Començarem des d’Oviedo i, si tenim temps, arribarem fins a Finisterre. També m’he comprat una motxilla nova per a l’ocasió (i, amb sort, per als pròxims 10 anys també).

Dear diary,

Eight months of project have passed, we are in May now and, in my case, it’ll last a little longer: I decided to stay. I don’t want to go back home and since I like life here and I know some people, Terrassa became my choice for the next few years.

I will study in Barcelona, languages and modern literature: it’s a four year course that will require me to go to the city pretty often. 

That’s why I’m also searching for an apartment close to a train station. Not that hard actually since the majority of the shared flats are in the Terrassa’s university area and the train stops there. I will actually go see another one tonight and I’m waiting for an answer from a dozen people :).

Too many things in mind… I need to apply to university, I need to find a place to stay, I need to apply for the national scholarship that could partially pay for my studies and in addition I need to organize my holidays! You know, here in Catalunya, beside some very appreciated rainy days, it is pretty hot and we already unlocked the summer mood. Beaches are full, woods are green and flowers are all over.

Especially in this time of the year, life can be pretty chaotic and pauseless. Plenty of associations are doing meetings, tallers, sporting activities in nature and much more. Joining them is a nice way to meet people, discover the territory, learn some new skills and practice catalan (I also tried castellers for a couple weeks but that’s suuuuper boring, not suggested).

Last news, in a week I’ll leave for a couple weeks to do the last 350km of the Santiago path with a couple of friends. We will start from Oviedo and eventually reach Finisterre if time will allow us. I also bought a new backpack for the occasion(and hopefully for the next 10 years as well).

Conclusions dels 8 mesos: vaig intentar fer connexions locals des del primer mes i, al final, ha valgut la pena, el català ha ajudat molt i durant els darrers dos mesos conèixer gent s’ha tornat molt més fàcil. Les associacions, les festes i festivals populars són per viure’ls i són també una eina genial. La gent necessita temps i, última reflexió, Catalunya és un lloc fantàstic perquè la seva gent ho és.

Veurem què passa els pròxims quatre anys.

Conclusions of 8 months in: I tried to make some local connection since the first month and in the end it was worth it, catalan helped a lot and during the last couple months meeting people became so much easier, associations and popular festivals and parties are there to be experienced by anyone and are also a great tool, people need time and, final consideration, Catalunya is a super nice place because its people are.

Let’s see what happens in the next four years.
