Senyores i senyors,

Hola, sóc en Noe i avui compartiré la meva experiència com a voluntari a Terrassa. Vaig arribar a Catalunya fa aproximadament un mes per a una missió de 10 mesos. Vaig triar aquest país perquè la seva cultura em semblava interessant, i havia après algunes bases de la llengua a l’institut. Vaig preferir venir a una ciutat gran perquè és més fàcil conèixer gent amb la mateixa mentalitat.

Ladies and gentlemen, 

 Hello, I’m Noah and today I’m going to share my experience as a volunteer in Terrassa. I arrived in Catalonia about a month ago for a 10 month mission. I chose this country because its culture seemed interesting, and I had learned a few basics of the language in middle and high school. I preferred to go to a big city because it’s easier to meet new people who are in the same mindset.

Fa un mes que visc amb cinc companyes de pis de diferents orígens: dos italianes, un grec, una alemanya i una francesa. Cadascuna té una personalitat i una experiència de vida diferent per compartir. Viure en una barreja de cultures t’obre molt la ment. Fins ara he visitat sobretot el centre de Terrassa, hem anat a un partit d’un equip local i hem descobert alguns bars.

 També vaig visitar molts gimnasos abans d’escollir el meu. Aquí els preus són molt més baixos que a França, tot i que la qualitat no sempre és millor i, de vegades, és pitjor. Viure en un país nou vol dir que hi ha moltes coses per visitar abans de marxar.

 De moment, la majoria de les visites han estat a Barcelona, hi ha tantes coses per veure només en aquesta ciutat. Les properes setmanes tenim previst organitzar-nos per descobrir altres llocs dels voltants. També compartim molts moments amb altres voluntaris, i és molt agradable.

I’ve been living for a month with five other flatmates from different backgrounds: two Italians, one Greek, one German and one French. Everyone has a different personality and life experience to share. Living in such a mix of cultures really opens your mind. So far, I’ve mostly visited Terrassa city centre, we’ve been to a local team’s match and discovered a few bars.

 I also visited many gyms before choosing mine. Here, prices are much lower than in France, even though the quality is not always better and sometimes even worse. Living in a new country means there’s a lot to visit before leaving.  

For now, most of our visits have been to Barcelona, there is so much to see in that big city alone. In the coming weeks, we plan to organise more trips to discover other places nearby. We also share many moments with other volunteers, and it’s really nice.

 M’agrada que tinguem moments per compartir, ja sigui parlant durant un àpat o després d’una pel·lícula. Hem començat les classes de català i no estic especialment motivat, però entenc que són importants.

 Els dimarts al vespre fem classes de salsa i bachata. No ho hauria fet mai sol a França, així que estic content de poder provar coses noves a Espanya, crea cohesió de grup i un bon ambient. Per als propers mesos, espero assistir a un partit del FC Barcelona, millorar el meu anglès i castellà per conèixer gent nova,

I like that we have moments of sharing, whether it’s a conversation over a meal or after a movie. We’ve started Catalan classes and I’m not particularly motivated, but I understand why they’re important.

On Tuesday evenings, we take Salsa and Bachata classes. I would never have done this alone in France, so I’m glad to be able to try new things in Spain, it creates group cohesion and a good atmosphere. In the coming months, I hope to attend an FC Barcelona match, improve my English and Spanish to meet new people, make lots of new memories to live this experience to the fullest, and enjoy working.
