“La vida comença al final de la teva zona de confort.” — Neale Donald Walsch

Diuen que un viatge de mil milles comença amb un sol pas, i m’agradaria compartir els primers passos del meu viatge a Terrassa. Ja fa gairebé dos mesos que vam començar el projecte , dos mesos plens de reptes, noves experiències i creixement personal.

Si em preguntes si les meves expectatives sobre el voluntariat s’han complert, no estic segura de poder respondre, perquè no m’agrada gaire crear expectatives. Però una cosa sí que puc dir amb certesa: aquest projecte et dona l’oportunitat d’estar en un entorn completament diferent, on aprens molt sobre les teves habilitats, sobre tu mateixa i sobre el món d’una manera més àmplia.

Deixes de veure la vida només a través d’una cultura, perquè en coneixes una altra,  i això realment canvia la teva perspectiva.

They say a journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and I’d like to share the first steps of my journey in Terrassa. It has been almost two months since we started the project, two months full of challenges, new experiences, and personal growth.

If you ask me whether my expectations about volunteering were met, I’m not sure I can answer that, because I don’t really like creating expectations. But one thing I can say for sure: this project gives you the chance to be in a completely different environment, where you learn a lot about your abilities, about yourself, and about the world in a wider way.

You stop seeing life only through one culture, because you get to know another one too, and that really changes your perspective.

Treballo a Jeroni de Moragas, amb adults que tenen discapacitats físiques i intel·lectuals. Les activitats allà són molt diverses, i el treball es basa en un model bio-psico-social. A vegades fins i tot fem classes de pastisseria, i he descobert habilitats que no sabia que tenia.

Treballar en aquesta organització m’ha ensenyat una cosa molt important, l’amor incondicional existeix de veritat, i el veig cada dia en les relacions i l’ambient del lloc. Això em fa molt feliç.

El meu repte més gran continua sent la barrera lingüística, però hi estic treballant. Aquesta organització també m’ha ensenyat que el progrés passa pas a pas, i estic intentant aplicar aquesta idea a la meva vida.

Pel que fa als voluntaris, som com una gran família sorollosa. Tothom és únic, amb personalitats i orígens culturals diferents. D’alguna manera, aconseguim comunicar-nos i conviure molt bé. Crec que la raó és el respecte que ens tenim mútuament.

I una cosa més: si t’agrada fer senderisme, aquest lloc és absolutament perfecte. La natura i els camins són preciosos i formen part de la vida quotidiana aquí. I si t’agrada el soroll i els llocs plens de vida, aquesta ciutat també t’ho ofereix, els carrers de Terrassa sempre estan plens de moviment, i és molt a prop de Barcelona, cosa que és ideal si busques encara més energia i activitat.

Al mateix temps, si vols experimentar plenament la cultura catalana, aquest és un lloc increïble per fer-ho. També és un lloc perfecte per conèixer gent meravellosa i fer noves amistats.

I work at Jeroni De Moragas, with adults who have physical and intellectual disabilities. The activities there are very diverse, and the work is based on a bio-psycho-social model. Sometimes we even have baking classes, and I discovered skills I didn’t know I had.

Working in this organization taught me something very important, unconditional love truly exists, and I see it every day in the relationships and atmosphere of the place. That makes me really happy.

My biggest challenge is still the language barrier, but I’m working on it. This organization also taught me that progress happens step by step, and I’m trying to apply this idea to my life.

As for the volunteers, we are like a big, loud family. Everyone is unique, with different personalities and cultural backgrounds. Somehow, we manage to communicate and live together really well. I think the reason is the respect we all have for each other.

And one more thing: if you love hiking, this place is absolutely perfect. The nature and trails are beautiful and part of daily life here And if you enjoy noise and lively places, this town also gives you that option Terrassa are always full of life, and the city is close to Barcelona, which is perfect if you want more movement and energy.

At the same time, if you want to fully experience Catalan culture, this is an amazing place to do that And it’s also a great place to meet wonderful people and make new friends.
