“During my ESC in Hungary, I had the opportunity to be a volunteer with Európa Ifjúsága Egyesület, an organization that does different projects around Hungary. In my case, I was living in Székesfehérvár with two other volunteers, Carlos and Marta. The three of us were volunteering in the project called Stronger Together, mainly held in the youth house of Magyaralmas, a small town which name means “Hungarian apple.”

“During a current week, we were doing language club, non-formal education activities with the youngsters and board games night. We were also doing activities in other centres, once per week we were doing English club in the kindergarten and going to different high schools around the territory to talk about our experience abroad and the Erasmus+ mobility opportunities. We participated in local events, such as the village day where we could try amazing gulyás, palacsinta, and go to Hungarian music concerts. Having the chance to participate in the daily life of Magyaralmás allowed us to get to know local people and learn a lot about the territory.”

“As volunteers we also had the chance to participate in the organization of the training course about mental health and burnout in youth workers. It was inn Enying, a beautiful piece of landscape close to Balaton, a huge lake in Hungary that looks like the sea. For me, as an educator, it was very fullfilling to see how training courses are organized from the inside, until then, I had been a participant and only seen it from this perspective. “

“This experience gave me the chance to get to know the functioning of the organization, as well as bring back home a lot of ideas, activities, and methodologies of non-formal education. I learnt how to get lost in Hungarian cities, discover hidden places and get used to the sound of Hungarian which I really miss. I met and bond with new people and made new friends and connections.”
