Senyores i senyors,

Hola a tothom!

Em dic Andreas i torno amb un altre diari. Han passat moltes coses des de l’última vegada que vaig escriure al novembre, en tots els aspectes de la vida, el voluntariat i més enllà. Així que començo, i espero ser breu (cosa que sé que mai aconsegueixo).

Començant per totes les coses bones, la feina s’ha anat tornant cada vegada més enriquidora amb el pas del temps. Ara estic completament immers en projectes de mobilitat internacional, comunicant-me amb socis i participants, publicant, llegint sol·licituds i gaudint del procés, tot i que a vegades pot ser estressant. Això m’ha donat una experiència que volia obtenir quan vaig venir aquí, ja que volia veure la part que hi ha darrere dels projectes, la part “no divertida” i tota la logística.

Al mateix temps, amb dues altres voluntàries, la Federica i l’Ana, i amb el suport de la nostra coordinadora l’Ailen i una altra voluntària, la Florina, en logística i comunicació, estem creant el nostre propi Youth Exchange que tindrà lloc a Terrassa els últims dies de maig. Per a mi això és com tancar el cercle, ja que he participat en molts projectes que finalment em van portar a triar i sol·licitar aquesta posició i a fer aquest voluntariat. El procés ha estat exigent però molt fructífer i m’ha mostrat encara un altre aspecte del que és aquesta feina.

Al mateix temps, el nostre bonic pòdcast amb la Fede, Voluntalks, s’està convertint cada vegada més en un espai on ens sentim còmodes i podem desconnectar de la càrrega de feina, tot i continuar estant treballar. Gaudim del procés i de les converses amb els altres voluntaris, que amb el temps es van tornant més naturals.

Un altre aspecte del voluntariat és que he començat a fer classes de català més avançades, cosa que també ha estat molt interessant. Juntament amb la meva motivació de parlar la llengua sempre que puc, he vist un gran progrés des del moment que vaig arribar aquí. He pogut mantenir reunions en català, parlar amb gent local, seguir converses una mica més complicades i fins i tot entendre i parlar amb gent beguda en sortir de nit (que per a mi és la prova definitiva d’un idioma).

Entre el moment en què vaig escriure l’últim diari i ara també he tingut l’oportunitat de fer una avaluació d’arribada del projecte de voluntariat en línia i una avaluació intermèdia presencial a Andalusia. Aquestes dues experiències han estat força diferents, però en gran part molt agradables. He tingut l’oportunitat de conèixer diferents voluntaris d’arreu d’Europa i d’altres llocs que estan fent el seu voluntariat a Espanya i experimentar realitats molt diverses, cosa que al final m’ha fet apreciar encara més la meva pròpia experiència.

Fora del voluntariat, Terrassa continua oferint diferents experiències culturals. M’encanta que puguis sortir un diumenge al vespre qualsevol i trobar gent ballant danses tradicionals, o anar a la Plaça Vella i veure com la gent fa castells (torres humanes). Hi ha molta vida a totes hores i tots els dies, i a mesura que el temps millora cada vegada més, sento que encara vindran moltes coses boniques! 🌞

Ladies and gentlemen, 

Hey everyone!

My name is Andreas and I am back with another diary. Many things have passed since the last time I wrote in November in all aspects of life, volunteering and beyond. So here I go and I hope I am short (which I know I never am).

Starting from all the good things, work has been becoming more and more enriching as time goes on. Now I am fully into international mobility projects, doing communication with partners and participants, posting, reading applications and enjoying the process, although stressful at times. This has given me some experience I wanted coming here, as I wanted to see the part behind the projects, the “non-fun” part and the logistics.

At the same time with two other volunteers, Federica and Ana, and the support of our coordinator Ailen, and another volunteer, Florina in logistics and communication, we are creating our own Youth Exchange which will take place in Terrassa the last days of May. For me this is coming full circle, as I have participated in many projects that eventually led me to choose and apply for this position and do this volunteering. The process has been challenging but fruitful and has shown me yet another aspect of what this job is.

At the same time our beautiful podcast with Fede, Voluntalks, is becoming more and more of a space where we feel comfortable and disconnect from the load, while still being at work. We enjoy the process and the talks with the other volunteers, that as time goes, feel more natural.

Another aspect of the volunteering is that I have taken up some more advanced catalan classes, which has also been really interesting. Along with my motivation to speak the language whenever I can, I have seen some great progress since the time I came here. I have been able to hold meetings in catalan, talks with local people, follow somewhat more complicated conversations, and even understood and talked with drunk people in nights out (which for me is the ultimate language test).

In between the time I wrote the last diary and now I have also had the chance to do an on arrival evaluation of the volunteering project online and an on site intermediate evaluation in Andalusia. These two experiences have been quite different, yet pretty enjoyable for the most part. I have had the chance to meet different volunteers from all over Europe and beyond that are doing their volunteering in Spain and experience many different realities, which in the end made me appreciate my own more.

Outside of the volunteering, Terrassa has still been offering different cultural experiences. I love that you can go out on a random Sunday evening and some people will be dancing traditional dances, you will go out to plaça vella and people will be creating castells (human towers). There is a lot of life all hours and days and as the weather gets better and better I feel there are more nice things coming! 🌞
