Dear Diary!
My name is Jette, I am 19 years old, and I am from Frankfurt, Germany.
I feel like I just arrived yesterday, but it’s already been two weeks. Isn’t it crazy how time flies?
This week, I already felt like I had found my routine: working in the morning, going home for lunch with my flatmate, then doing some sports and, to close the day, meeting up with the other volunteers. But still, every day looks different and is entirely unique, which I appreciate a lot.
Something I am deeply grateful for as well is that all of us volunteers, and especially my flatmates, get along super well. This is why I am confident to say that I feel at home here, or at least less homesick (maybe that’s also due to the fact that every second store here is called Frankfurt/ sells Frankfurter Würstchen, or simply because of the rainy weather).
Living on my own is definitely very new and therefore a challenge, but it is also very exciting for me, and I am proud to say that I am learning a lot!
On Friday, some other volunteers and I went to see a batucada group and joined their correbars (bar-hopping). I loved dancing to the beats and chatting with some locals! Then, after our obligatory weekly visit to La República (our favorite bar), we went home with our feet hurting from dancing.
One of the things I enjoy the most is not only experiencing the Spanish/Catalan way of living (this weekend, we also allowed ourselves to be tourists in Barcelona), but also getting to know the cultures of my fellow volunteers. This means baking together (German Apple Cake or Swedish Cinnamon Buns), teaching each other important words from our native languages, or laughing about our different UNO rules ;)Therefore, I can say that this week was very eventful, and I can’t wait for the next one to come! However, I hope it will not go by as quickly. ❤
Yours sincerely,
Jette
